Batman’s Biggest Fan Leads DC's All

Aug 05, 2023

The number one Batman fan in the multiverse leads DC Comics’ upcoming holiday anthology series, DC's 'Twas the 'Mite Before Christmas #1.

The biggest nuisance in Batman's life is taking the lead for a new holiday special with some of DC's hottest talents. Bat-Mite rings in winter with an anthology featuring some of DC's greatest characters and creators.

2023 is quickly coming to an end, and DC is revealing what it has in store in the year's final months. Its highly anticipated crossover Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong will continue to pit DC's heroes against the Monsterverse's Titans. And DC is going to kick off a crossover that brings Santa Claus to DC canon. But that's not all the merry fun DC has in store later this year.

’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a…Bat-Mite?! Join all your DC favorites as they take on eight classic holiday stories! From Constantine and Lex Luthor’s Dickensian tale to Batwoman’s puzzling Hanukkah hijinks to your classic cocoa-swilling Christmas romance switch with Harley and Amethyst, this book is a perfect companion for cookies by the fire and extra sour cream on your latkes. So pull up a sled and get ready for plenty of ho-ho-holiday hope to get you in the spirit of the season!

Interdimensional imp and the biggest Batman fan alive, Bat-Mite leads a new anthology one-shot. DC's 'Twas the 'Mite Before Christmas #1 will feature new holiday stories featuring characters such as Harley Quinn, Constantine, Batwoman, Amethyst, and Lex Luthor. The seasonal comic comes from a murderers' row of talented creators like Natalie Abrams, Michael W. Conrad, Josh Trujillo, Ethan Sacks, Zipporah Smith, Rob Levin, Sholly Fisch, Jillian Grant, Marcus Smith, Gavin Guidry, Andrew Drilon, Soo Lee, Juan Bobillo, and more.

This isn't the first holiday special that DC has put out. Over the years, DC Comics has released several winter-themed one-shots filled with seasonal short stories. In the past, anthologies such as Tis the Season to be Feezin' or DC's Grifter Got Run Over By a Reindeer have assembled rising talent to craft tales of DC's greatest heroes and villains celebrating various winter holidays. DC has also released similar one-shots for other holidays such as Valentine's Day, springtime and Halloween. Though rarely canon, the anthologies are a fun way of seeing DC's characters in their downtime.

If there's anyone who's up for leading the DC Universe in some non-canon fun, it'd be Bat-Mite. The fifth-dimensional rascal loves the stories of the DCU, even if they're not always about his favorite hero, Batman. Higher-dimensional imps are always up for a good time, even if they usually drive the third dimension mad with their antics. Making Bat-Mite the host of his own holiday special would be a great way of bringing in the rarely-seen imp. Not only would he make for a great narrator, but he could also provide comedic commentary on the state of comic books.

Much like Superman's recurring god-level pest, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Bat-Mite is a fifth-dimensional being, and he's got a meta-awareness that rivals Deadpool. While a tale about Bat-Mite learning the true meaning of Christmas or another holiday would be appropriate for a special, including the imp is a prime opportunity for him to cast out what he thinks of the current happenings of the DC Universe. Is he a fan of Knight Terrors? Does he like the direction of the Dawn of DC? Or is he willing to put his fanboy nature aside and just relax around the holidays? Fans can see what awaits the Batman stan in DC's 'Twas the 'Mite Before Christmas #1, on sale December 12th.
