OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — On Wednesday, the weather was comfortable enough for UW-Oshkosh students to be moving in their dorms.

But for students whose dorms don’t have air conditioning, dealing with the upcoming heat over Labor Day weekend will be a challenge.

“The only places the freshman can select is Webster and Donner, because you’re freshman,” says Taylor Showalter, a junior at UW-Oshkosh who is now moving into one of the dorms equipped with A/C.

He shared what it was like in his room during hot days.

“It was pretty bad. It was, you open a window, you got a personal fan,” Showalter responded. “Whether it was $5 or $35, you can get as many fans as you could.”

Freshman Ben Lissa is moving into Donner, one of the buildings on campus that doesn’t have A/C. He’s bringing his very own plug-in fan.

Lissa said, “I’d rather just open the windows so I could catch the slight breeze that comes through… But I had stayed in a college dorm at a state tournament and the A/C wasn’t working that day. So I knew to bring my very own fan.”

Showalter said he’s glad to be an upperclassman moving into a newer building.

“Well, I’m just happy that it’s a newer building, because with the older buildings, not only was there no A/C, but when the heating did turn on, the rooms would fill with dust,” he said. “There’s older buildings, there’s not the best circulation… The A/C is gonna be nice because I grew up here in Wisconsin, I love the winter. I like cold more than heat, personally.”
